The Archdiocese of Chicago hosted a Day of Renewal 2023. As the event management production team, we faced a unique timeframe with a fast and early schedule to accommodate guest arrivals. The short load and limited stage design, day of rehearsals, sound check, and more added complexity to the day. In order to ensure the standards required of this event were met, we worked with the Archdiocese to create a strategic production schedule that included virtual rehearsals for storytelling of the event, reviewing scripts, updating run of shows, and ensuring the emcees were comfortable with their transitions. The final support in successfully completing this short load in the time frame was the ability to drop equipment the Friday before to be stored until the event in order to reduce the number of deliveries occurring that jam-packed morning.

The entire team at akire is excellent at what they do. From the moment our team at the Archdiocese of Chicago started working with them, they were asking all the right questions (the ones we hadn’t thought of), were able to understand our audience and goals, and make recommendations to elevate the event from good to great. Everything was executed flawlessly because of the akire productions team. The only thing we would change is to have engaged akire earlier in the process. The sooner you can start working with Erika and her team, the better off you’ll be—and your staff and event attendees will notice.

The client wanted to create an inclusive environment, so they interlaced American Sign Language translators throughout the event, the Renewal Guide in a variety of languages, and provided a digital translation for those to follow along during the day’s events. The American Sign Language interpreter was carefully placed in a particular section, so guests with this need could sit and view. The Renewal Guide was provided in English but also available in Spanish and Polish, along with being displayed on screens during the Day of Renewal. Lastly, the community was also connected through music from several parishes to perform a variety of worship music that exhibited their vast talent. It was a beautiful celebration and experience for the Archdiocese and their guests.
